<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;">Colleagues, the 17th biennial conference of the ICTMA will be held in Nottingham, UK, in July this year.<div>The conference has modelling and applications at its core - the theme is Modelling perspectives: looking in and across boundaries. This provides opportunities to connect with colleagues who work in other disciplines in which mathematics plays an important role as well as mathematics education researchers - we would like to encourage participation across discipline boundaries where possible.</div><div>At this ICTMA conference we wish to explore the notion of boundary in more detail. For example:</div><div><br><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• its importance in the development of understanding of the world which we model mathematically,<br><br></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• how we can teach applying mathematics and modelling in ways which facilitate learners to work at the boundaries of different forms of knowledge,<br><br></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• how to assess the processes involved in working at boundaries between mathematical and non-mathematical worlds.<br><br>For those of you who know little of the conference it is perhaps helpful to point out that it is inclusive in terms of accepting contributions of academic work - and it is also very friendly.
