I am in the process of finalizing PoME Jnl no. 31 which contains contributions from the Study Group (TSG 53) on The Philosophy of Mathematics Education at the recent excellent congress ICME-13, in Hamburg, July 2016. Look out for this one very soon! Final details of this issue will be circulated on publication. A selection of papers from PoME Jnl no. 31 will be revised for inclusion in a proposed monograph with Springer on The Philosophy of Mathematics Education, planned for 2017. However this is not a closed project! Proposals or ideas for further new chapters for this book are sought, to make it a state of the art collection on the topic. New submissions may also be considered for the next issue PoME Jnl for 2017. Editorial policy. This is an international refereed journal that aims to stimulate the sharing of research for no reason other than a love of ideas and their discussion. The editorial hand is used very lightly. Many types of submission are welcome including papers, short contributions, discussions, provocations, reactions or reviews. Graduate students are warmly invited to submit relevant assignments and theses for inclusion in the journal, to make resources available to the research community, that might otherwise be inaccessible, in mathematics education and/or the philosophy of mathematics. Already published papers and conference presentations can be republished in this journal to broaden their availibilty, provided authors obtain any necessary permisions. Format of submissions: Please send any items for inclusion to the editor as a virus-checked attachment in MS Word or compatible formats. There are no strict guidelines ? authors are requested to make their submissions look like previously published papers ? especially the first page headers, etc. Refereeing: All papers are submitted to peer-review on which decisions whether to accept, require revisions or reject are based. Copyright Notice. All materials published herein remain copyright of the named authors, or of the editor if unattributed. Permission is given to freely copy the journal contents on a not-for-profit basis, provided full credit is given to the author and the journal, and the integrity of papers is preserved. Acknowledgement The journal is made possible by the generous support of University of Exeter Graduate School of Education STEM Research Centre. As the range and scope of challenges to ecological survival extend, at what point must this impinge on mathematics taught in schools, or the way we prepare mathematics teachers for their roles, or the research done in mathematics education? Given the accountability pressures on school and universities, where are the spaces for considering the ethical implications of the choices we make within mathematics?, the spaces for working with uncertainty? and with complex situations where we cannot predict the results of our actions? Specific questions addressed in the Special Issue might be (but are not limited to): ? What is the role of mathematics and mathematics education in the global environmental crisis? What role might there be in responding to this crisis? ? How can inter-disciplinary work promote awareness of the role of mathematics in complex, ethical decision-making? ? How do global crises challenge our values and ethics as mathematics educators? ? How can mathematics education address the risk and uncertainty in the current environmental crisis? Submissions, theoretical or empirical, may address these or related questions concerning mathematics education at any stage, including in formal schooling, higher and further education, informal education, and public understanding and education.
