RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

EDITORIAL BOARD 2016-2018

Open call for proposals

The Executive of the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics (BSRLM) invites proposals for six positions on the Editorial Board of its journal Research in Mathematics Education (RME). The Executive will seek to ensure that the research interests of the various members of the Board cover the main areas and methods of enquiry current in the field and this will influence the selection process. The Executive will be working in consultation with and guided by the Editors of the journal throughout.

Research in Mathematics Education is the official journal of BSRLM. It is an international English language journal which publishes original refereed articles on all aspects of mathematics education. Submissions are welcome from both non-members and members of the organisation. The journal expects papers to frame the central issues in terms which are applicable across educational systems and informed by wider thinking in the field. There are three issues per year, one of which is a Special Issue.

The journal currently has three sections, covering research papers, book reviews, and current reports. The research papers section contains reports of studies involving empirical investigation and theoretical argumentation from which conclusions and implications can be drawn for future research and practice. Such reports are expected to show how the study builds on critical review of relevant literature and to provide an account of the methods and procedures used. Reports on thoughtful replications or variations of key earlier studies are welcome, as are reviews of some well-defined aspect of mathematics education. The journal welcomes high-quality research in any methodological tradition and is open to innovative and unusual approaches.

Applicants should set out their expertise and experience in relation to the role. The Executive will be looking for good experience of peer reviewing in the field of mathematics education for research journals of international standing and a distinguished record of publication in the field. Applicants should therefore submit:

*         a concise statement of their main areas of research and methods of enquiry within the field;
*         a summary of their experience of peer reviewing in the field for research journals of international standing;
*         a brief cv of approximately two pages indicating their record of publication in the field;
* confirmation that they are prepared to undertake in a timely fashion up to 6 reviews of research papers each year and to contribute to the general promotion and development of the journal.

Applications should be sent to Professor Hilary Povey, Chair, BSRLM (h.povey at shu.ac.uk<mailto:h.povey at shu.ac.uk>) for consideration by the Executive and the Editors of the journal. The deadline for applications is 30th November 2015. Appointments will be made at the meeting of the Executive in January 2016. The Executive reserves the right to approach potential members of the Editorial Board by invitation after the closing date for proposals. There will be further annual open calls for proposals for the Editorial Board.

Best Wishes,

Peter
