The IOE, University of London, is a leading centre for initial and continuing teacher education, research and development. We have an exceptional track record in training teachers, and in innovating within a fast-changing field. The IOE is looking to make up to eleven new appointments with an initial teacher education focus. This is an opportunity to join one of the world?s most vibrant centres for teacher education and to contribute to the development of the next generation of teachers in the UK and beyond. We want to make sure that IOE remains at the cutting edge of work, in close partnership with schools. Our ambitions are wide-ranging: we see teacher education as integral to the work of the Institute as a world leader in research and teaching, and essential to the country?s future, especially the future aspirations of children. We are seeking staff in the following areas who can help us train outstanding teachers, who are committed to education and social justice, and who wish to develop their own academic careers. Mathematics is a fount of abstract ideas, some of which are primarily visual. In this talk, Eva will discuss some of the algorithms and processes that she uses to design and produce artwork based on the Hilbert Curve, a ?discrete? fractal that covers a square surface, to any desired density. Along the way, she will also present artwork by some of the artists who have influenced her work. EVA KNOLL is a Canadian/Swiss mathematical artist and mathematics educator. Her art practice focuses on the problematics posed at the confluence of multiple media, geometries, patterns both numerical and spatial, and the technical aspects of creating artwork, particularly from a mathematical thinking perspective. Currently, she is finishing a sabbatical year, away from teacher education, investigating some of the mathematical thinking involved in designing, creating and appreciating textiles. Next seminar: 14 June, Francisco Gonz?lez Redondo. Then seminars will re-start in September. *LKLMathsArt on YouTube: a growing archive of videos from the Maths-Art seminars. http://www.youtube.com/user/LKLMathsArt *Visit the website and seminar archive: http://www.lkl.ac.uk/events/maths-art *Join the email list for future seminar announcements: http://www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/lkl-maths-art ++++++ Dr Phillip Kent, London Knowledge Lab p.kent at ioe.ac.uk phillip.kent at gmail.com www.phillipkent.net m: 07950 952034 ++++++ From Peter.Gates at nottingham.ac.uk Mon Apr 30 13:22:26 2012 From: Peter.Gates at nottingham.ac.uk (Peter Gates) Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2012 13:22:26 +0100 Subject: [Maths-Education] FW: Senior Lectureship in Maths Ed at Leicester Message-ID: Message From Janet Ainley regarding a post at Leicester.
