Dear Candia,
Thanks for reminding the List of the outstanding and courageous (and in 
this context also relevant)  work being done by Marylin Frankenstein, 
Arthur Powell and others. If people are interested they can Google her 
and Arthur and will find much to read about their work and  ideas. For 
example the paper: Ethnomathematics and Critical Mathematics**by Arthur 
B. Powell, Gelsak Knijnik, Gloria Gilmer and Marilyn Frankenstein This 
is a strong continuation of the seminal work of Paolo Freire, especially 
  his: Pedagogy of the Oppressed.
