Hi Mike,

Jonathan San Diego (J.P.San_Diego at kcl.ac.uk) for his doctoral thesis at the Open University used eye tracking for looking at how students made sense of different instantiations of mathematics (used algebraic functions and graphs).

His thesis title was: "The effect on learners' strategies of varying computer-based representations : evidence from gazes, actions, utterances and sketches"

I've just completed a preliminary study using an eye tracker in an attempt to correlate mathematical expertise and the amount of cognitive processing carried out. Is anyone a aware of any studies involving the use of eye tracking and students reading/interpretation of mathematics, particularly algebraic problems?
