Colleagues
[with apologies if you receive this more than once]

The University of Southampton, one of the UK's leading research universities and among the top 100 universities in the world, has just announced an "open call" to appoint 100 new full Professors as part of our commitment to developing our research excellence.

To be successful, an applicant would need a successful track-record of funded research and distinguished publications, and be, or be seeking to be, a world-leading researcher.

The mathematics education group here at Southampton forms the major part of the University of Southampton Research Centre for Mathematics and Science Centre:
http://www.education.soton.ac.uk/research/research_centres/

We are based in the University's Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, along with the University's School of Mathematics. This means that collaboration with our colleagues in mathematics is a natural part of what we do.

The "open call" for these new full Professor positions within the University's Faculty of Human and Social Sciences are currently being advertised. Details and forms are online at:
http://www.jobs.soton.ac.uk
Search using the following position number:
5137-10-J

The "open call" has no fixed closing date; successful applicants will need to be in post by 30 September 2012. The open call will be closed once the 100 new positions are filled.

Please consider forwarding this message to anyone that you think might be interested in this opportunity. And please do contact me if I can help advise in any way.

best regards

Keith

The University of Southampton School of Education is a flourishing centre of research and teaching excellence with an international outlook. In the 2008 HEFCE Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 80 per cent of our research was graded as international quality. The University is a key player in the UK Higher Education STEM programme (promoting science and mathematics) and the School of Education is directly involved in running the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods in the Social Sciences and is an active partner in the University's HEFCE-funded Centre for Excellence in Inter-Professional Learning. The School of Education is also the base for the DfE-funded Regional Science Learning Centre for the south east of England.

The School of Education is situated on the main university campus in a new building with state-of-the-art facilities. The surrounding area is one of the most beautiful in Britain, with excellent rail and road links to London and elsewhere in the UK, and with air and sea links to mainland Europe and beyond.
