Dear Colleagues,

The British Congress in Mathematics Education (BCME-7) will take place between the 6th and 9th April 2010 in Manchester. The conference aims to bring all sections of mathematics and mathematical education communities together. A novel element of the conference will be the themed days. We hope the themes will offer colleagues the chance to indulge their interests in particular areas of mathematics. One of these themes will focus on the mathematics of Primary and Early Years children. In the past we have offered a variety of primary focused activities but this time we would like to extend the offerings to include an Early Years focus. The primary mathematics arena is undergoing many changes with, for example, a new curriculum on the horizon and notions of connected curriculum. And this is where I hope that you might wish to come in: do you have something you wish to share with others? Have you some insights, activities, problems, experiences that will enable others to learn more about mathematics, its teaching and learning in primary and the early years?

If so, I would like to hear from you. BCME cannot offer any financial reward or inducement, although we promise to do our best to make sure that the facilities you need for your session to run smoothly are available.

We are anticipating a range of sessions such as:

    * Practical workshops
    * Discussion groups
    * Research reports

You may have already received a proposal form through other channels or strands; however, I hope that you will be interested in contributing to the Primary and Early Years strand for this conference next year. Please see the attached document for further details and the proposal form. The deadline for workshop submissions is 20th August 2009. For research papers and reports the deadline is 30th September 2009.
