Dear Colleague

Primary Mathematics Continuing Professional Development

This message is addressed to colleagues involved in primary mathematics
continuing professional development (CPD) for qualified teachers and who
might be able to help with a study.

England¹s Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) is conducting
an investigation into primary mathematics education, addressing issues such
as:
·     the purposes served by (CPD) in primary mathematics;
· how teachers and schools identify priorities for CPD in primary
mathematics;
· how teachers and schools measure the impact/effectiveness of CPD in
primary mathematics;
· areas in primary mathematics where CPD is either well provided for or
is lacking;
· models of CPD that result in the provision being effective and/or
would improve effectiveness in these areas.

I am particularly interested hearing from colleagues who:

(1) are currently involved in providing CPD for primary mathematics in
England
(2) from outside England have suggestions for proven models of effective
CPD.

We have been asked to carry out this review on behalf of ACME and to produce
the report by the end of June, so we are working to tight deadlines. If any
colleagues feel willing and able to comment on the issues above, please
contact Mike Askew (mike.askew at kcl.ac.uk) directly and I¹ll send you further
information.
