Monday 21 March, 5.30 - 7.00pm
Large Seminar Room, London Knowledge Lab, London WC1N 3QS

The Art and Mathematics of Polygon Construction, Star Polygons, and Modularity
A lecture by Professor Reza Sarhangi, Towson University, USA

Designs that are generated based on regular polygons are good tools for
introducing many ideas in mathematics. This lecture begins with a brief
introduction of mathematics and art connections from ancient Greece to
modern times. Then it covers the idea of constructible polygons and
constructions of star polygons and presents examples from the arts of
various cultures around the world. It also presents ways that computers
can be used to generate and investigate polygons.
