Graphics Calculator Key-Recorder Research - One Day Conference

A small number of researchers have been making use of the key-recorder
software that has been developed for the TI-83+ calculator. This
software records the keys that are pressed by the pupil or student as
they use the calculator. The actual use that the pupil or student made
of the calculator can then be played back by the researcher.  This
replay can be used examine how the calculator was used. Some pilot
studies have been carried out at Plymouth with different groups of
students ranging from Key Stage 2 pupils to undergraduates. These pilot
projects have illustrated the potential of this new software to inform
research. Some researchers at other institutions have begun to make use
of the key-recorder and others have expressed in interest.

The aim of this day is to gather together, researchers who have used or
who are interested in this research tool, in order to share their
experiences and to look at opportunities for using the software. It will
also equip interested researchers with the software needed to make use
of the software themselves.

The day will include:

(i) Presentations of summaries of projects that have been undertaken.

(ii) A discussion technical issues and information on how to
capture/replay of data.

(iii) A discussion of potential future projects and collaborative ideas.

The conference will take place on Wednesday 10th November at the
University of Plymouth.

There will be no charge for this conference.
