<b>Title:</b> Transforming Spirals into S0s: clues from the Tully-Fisher relation</div>

<b>Abstract:</b> Almost 20 year ago we found strong empirical evidence that lenticular (S0) galaxies are the descendants of spiral galaxies which faded after their star formation ceased a few Gyrs ago. Much of this evidence came from a detailed analysis of

 the Tully-Fisher relation of spiral and lenticular galaxies and their stellar and globular cluster populations. Recent numerical models of galaxy formation and evolution have now been able to reproduced the observational results. In this talk I will present

 the old observations and the new models, shedding some light on the physical process driving the transformation of spirals into S0s. </div>
