The Milky Way, while extensively studied, still conceals much about its<br>
fossil population of stellar remnants, including white dwarfs, neutron<br>
stars, and black holes, as these objects often remain out of reach for<br>
electromagnetic telescopes. Yet, they become accessible when they form<br>
ultra-short-period binaries, which emit gravitational radiation. In my<br>
talk, I will showcase the potential of the upcoming Laser Interferometer<br>
Space Antenna (LISA) for Galactic studies, emphasising its ability to<br>
characterise ultra-short-period binary populations across the entire<br>
Milky Way. I will outline how the LISA mission could contribute to<br>
solving some of the persistent questions in our field, such as the<br>
nature of Type Ia supernova progenitors or the origin of the excess<br>
gamma-ray emission observed towards the Galactic Centre.</div>
