Apologies for the late announcement - this week’s lunch talk will be given by Jade Gray, and will take place on Thursday 5th February at 1pm in A113. Title and abstract below.
Title: Mapping the Jet-Driven Molecular Filaments in the Phoenix Cluster

Abstract: Powerful radio jets launched by a SMBH deposit a large amount of energy into their host galaxy and cluster environment. AGN feedback is thought to suppress gas cooling and star formation in massive galaxies at late times. The Phoenix cluster,
at z=0.596, hosts an extreme example of this common mechanism. We present new CO(5-4) and CO(3-2) ALMA observations of the Phoenix cluster that trace the extended molecular gas filaments. By comparing the two emission lines, we start to probe at the physical
conditions of the gas in the filaments relative to the central reservoir.
