This list is a means the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME) can easily communicate with its members. The list is currently moderated by Bettina Roesken, PME Administrative Manager. The list serves as a means to inform PME members about official PME issues. The list contains all PME members who gave their email address and did not declare that they do not want to be on an email list. If you have an announcement or question about PME, please send it to bettina.roesken@rub.de or pme-mail@lists.nottingham.ac.uk. Bettina will post messages concerning official PME issues to the list. As an alternative to the official list-serv, there is an Open Forum at http://igpme.org. You can post any message of general interest to PME members on this forum. List Membership As a general rule, only individual members of PME will be subscribed to the list and not non-members, companies or institutions. (However, no one who for whatever reason cannot pay the membership fee is excluded from PME membership. The Administrative Manager has a mandate from the International Committee to enter such persons as a member 'for free'). The Administrative Manager (Bettina) may send the List-Owner (Peter Gates) regularly (say twice a year) an updated list of PME members and the List-Owner can invite new PME members to subscribe to the list. List Protocol The pme-mail list is a professional forum for the exchange of matters related to mathematics education through the auspices of PME. Consequently, it is expected that subscribers will act in a manner befitting a professional research organisation. The List-Owner (acting on behalf of the PME IC) has the power and the right to eject subscribers for infringement of the agreed protocol, for example by members using the list for some kind of advertisement intended for personal gain, inappropriate, rude or slanderous comments. If necessary, the List-Owner can send a polite reminder to someone who, in the Owner's opinion oversteps the intentions of the protocol. On subscribing, members will receive a first message in which the List-Owner indicates (as a representative of the International Committee) the protocol of the discussion list and invites the people on the list to participate. Information on "unsubscribing" will be included in this first message. The protocol contains (a) the purpose of the list, (b) a polite reminder of general email ethics. The protocol will be sent out the first time and once every year after updating of the membership (in August). Please note that the password that is given to you for the PME discussion list is different to the password you need to login to the igpme.org website. Using pme-mail
To post a message to all the list members, send email to pme-mail@lists.nottingham.ac.uk. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to pme-mail
Subscribe to pme-mail by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Your email address:   Your name (optional):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your password will be emailed to you as a reminder.
